Knitting technique

In the knitting hall of the permanent exhibition, the historical development of knitting techniques used in Bulgaria is traced in the context of global trends in this field.

Two types of knitting machines are on display – sock knitting machines and machines for producing knitwear.

Interesting exhibits are: a manual linear hosiery machine from 1890; a flat knitting machine, manufactured in Bulgaria in 1940; a two-cylinder Bentley Komet hosiery machine, manufactured in England in 1967; a sewing machine for elastic seams from 1970, manufactured in Germany.

Demonstrations are made of: a cylinder knitting machine for socks (render), created in Germany in 1940; a sock knitting machine Jdeal, Germany, 1940; a loop-jointing machine (kettel), Germany, 1969; a double-cylinder knitting machine for socks D2LC, Czech Republic, 1972; a linear knitting machine for clothing, manufactured in Germany in 1976.

The Bulgarian technology for the production of spectacular yarns "Prenomit" and the first machine working using this method, created in 1977, are presented. The technology is patented in more than 20 countries around the world.
